Yesterday I watched some really disgusting things happen. Apparently standing up for decency — which is to say, suggesting it’s gross to wish ill on the president and his wife — makes you some evil Trump supporter. Point out it’s common decency, and people double and triple down, justifying wishing ill on the living through some manipulation of morality. What ever happened to the, “When they go low, we go high?” adage coined by their former beloved First Lady? Yesterday I saw friends get called all manner of names for this idea of simply not being an a**hole from the so called tolerant left who themselves call for this incredibly low bar to be followed by others. But were they themselves tolerant? Nay… they were too busy going lower.

What kind of tolerance is it to be upset with people who want you to be not be an a**hole? What kind of tolerance is it to sit there and complain for a half a week the president didn’t call out hate and then to sit there and wish ill upon him when he’s diagnosed with covid? What sort of logical consistency is that?

What kind of tolerance is it to sit there and say “he deserves it” because of some false equivalence that he cared more about the economy than safety?

Yes, yesterday I read that.

I feel compelled to share yet again that those of you not watching your cities crumble around you have no idea what you’re asking for to ask for the economy to close. California had a $21B surplus a year ago; now a $54B deficit. 1300 and counting of 2500 store fronts in San Francisco have closed. Pintrest paid $90M to get out of their lease here. A record 193K citizens are unemployed which is 4 times the 2008 Great Recession number. Hundreds of thousands face food and shelter insecurity — basic Maslow 1 needs — and not because they are part of the record homeless this state boast, but because our leaders didn’t have the foresight to consider the impact of closing the economy which is much further reaching than theses stats because suicide, divorce and domestic abuse are also on the rise.

Meanwhile, this city isn’t affording private citizens the same rights government employees get. Did you hear about the scam where city gyms were allowed to open indoors while private gyms are not? Yup. That happened here in the ever so tolerant and progressive city where our Mayor reprimanded Burners gathering on the beach and exercising their first amendment rights when she had previously supported people’s first amendment right to gather for BLM protests. I could ask again what sort of tolerance is that, but if you’ve been paying attention, you’ll know it is the so called tolerance of the left at it again which is riddled with hypocrisy and hatred.

Meanwhile, the citizens around here blame all this on Trump and for no good reason. These are policies that our Democrat leaders put in place. I get it, believe me — I get the upset of this situation. I understand how people can be feeling frustrated — I have not been able to open the doors of my business since mid March. And sure, Trump makes for a great scape goat because #OrangeManBad from before he was even elected.

But consider the impact on this once great city and translate that to the country. Consider how our supply chain would be completely crippled. Consider how we’d be experiencing mass challenges to our food chain had we all abided by the tyrannical rules even in places where population density most definitely doesn’t justify it.

Trump had the foresight to recognize this was the logical outcome of these sorts of policies, seems to me. I mean, little old me had the foresight to recognize this way back in March and I’m surely not someone who has run companies of the magnitude he has. So sure, reduce his thought process to “he’s prioritizes money over safety” all you like but recognize, please, that perhaps you have a one sided perspective and that it isn’t the complete picture by any means.

But even if you do feel that way — again, I can understand why anger might have you seeing such things even if they aren’t rational — to walk around and reprimand people and call them names because they don’t share your view and simply want to be respectful of our sick president and his wife seems like an absurd response. I want to sit here and write that I hope you get what you give, but I honestly can’t because it seems too cruel. I can’t imagine wanting people to sit there and wish you ill while you’re sick. I can’t imagine holding a space of such utter cruelty and meanness toward a living person despite all the ways in which I myself have been victimized, torn down and undermined explicitly in life.

Honestly, what is wrong with you people? You claim to be tolerant but you don’t know the first thing about it. I beg of you, please, ask yourself: What kind of tolerance is it to hypocritically spew hate and worse, while you’re doing so you act as if you somehow have the moral high ground? It hurts my heart and ultimately boggles my mind.
